Quote of the Day #52: A Pure Heart

We quickly get offended when people criticize us or gossip about us behind our backs, and understandably so. But what if we took a moment to remember all the wrong things we’ve said and done in our lives (or thought) that nobody knows about. The truth is we are a lot worse than people think. Remember this when you feel tempted to get offended, even if people are not being truthful or giving you a fair shake. What should offend us is the garbage we allow our minds to be polluted with—the same bad energy we recycle back into the world. It’s more important to have a pure heart than a pure reputation. And, at the end of the day, it’s the only thing we have control over.

Quote of the Day #46: The Value of Life

Imagine you have $86,400 in your account and someone steals $10 from you. Will you be upset and throw all of the $86,390 away in hopes of getting back at the person that took your $10? Or move on and live? Move on and live, right. See, we all have 86,400 seconds every day, so don’t let someone’s negative 10 seconds ruin the rest of the 86,390. Don’t sweat the small stuff, life is bigger than that.

Quote of the Day #22: Thich Nhat Hanh

Suppose you are in the desert, and you only have one glass of muddy water. You have to transform the muddy water into clear water to drink, you cannot just throw it away. So you let it settle for a while, and clear water will appear. In the same way, we have to convert anger into some kind of energy that is more constructive, because anger is you. Without anger you have nothing left. That is the work of meditation.
